The Far West neighborhood is an area in far western Eugene. It is north of Churchill, south of Bethel-Danebo and west of Jefferson and Whiteaker. The population of this area is 3,524 which represents 2.2% of the population of the Eugene area. It is primarily a residential area, with small clusters of commercial establishments. Over 65% of housing units are renter occupied, and the population of the area is relatively young. There are several beautiful parks in this area including the Matthews Community Gardens. The bike path runs through the center of the Far West neighborhood, and makes it easy to access the rest of Eugene via bike or on foot. This area is also very close to the Lane County Fair Grounds, which offer a variety of events throughout the year. Public transportation is available with several regular bus routes that run through the area. The Far West is part of the 4j school district and students usually attend Jefferson Middle School and Churchill High School.
